First Edition, Very Scarce. No. 2 in 'The Bellamy Library of Fact and Fiction&apos.Illustrated with a frontispiece of the author. 'Dr. Heidenhoff's Process' is one of Bellamy's earlier works of fiction, in which a doctor develops a mechanical method for eradicating painful memories from people's brains. The main protagonist of the work persuades his lover to get the procedure done when she is seduced by one of his rivals, leading to unfortunate consequences.Edward Bellamy (1850-1898) was an American author, journalist, and political activist. He is best known for his Utopian novel 'Looking Backward', which is No. 1 in 'The Bellamy Library of Fact and Fiction' and was one of the most commercially successful books in America in the 19th century. He created a newspaper titled 'A New Nation', as well as a sequel to 'Looking Backward' before his death the following year in 1898. Three pages of publisher's adverts to rear, with additional adverts to paste downs. Undated, so dated on Jisc from an identical copy held at the University of Cambridge Libraries.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Minimal edge wear with light bumping to head and tail of spine. A few marks to boards, with fading to head and tail of spine as well. Prior owner's ink inscription to front endpaper, with light spotting to paste downs and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound.
